Call for applications: Consultants wanted for schreiben&lebenExTRA

Have you experienced the ups and downs of self-employment in the literary industry yourself, and can you imagine exchanging ideas with colleagues, sharing your experiences, answering questions, and working together on solutions? Then the role of consultant at schreiben&lebenExTRA might be just right for you.

Our new project period begins in February 2026, and we will be re-advertising the consultant positions for our 2026-2028 consultation program:
As part of the project “schreiben&lebenExTRA – Sharing expertise, building resilience” run by Lettrétage e.V., we are looking for freelance consultants with expertise in all economic and commercial aspects of freelance literary work.

Scope: As needed/on demand (on average approx. three to six consulting days per year, max. eight consulting hours per day)
Start: February 2026
Remuneration: On a fee basis, €55 gross per hour, framework agreement
Application deadline: December 15, 2025

Previous experience in a consulting position is not required! Much more important is the motivation to impart knowledge, engage in exchange, and support the independent literary scene. We encourage you to apply if you have expertise in at least one of the following fields, and are confident about providing consultation to literary freelancers:

• Finding agents and publishers
• Orientation within the Berlin literary scene
• Writing applications and proposals
• Acquiring clients and negotiating contracts
• Laws and licensing
• Literary networks
• Community marketing, marketing on social media, marketing yourself as a literary freelancer
• Literary translation, AI, software for writing and translation
• Getting project funding and managing literary events (reading series, etc.)
• Opportunities and funding for comic book authors
• Opportunities and funding for screenwriters
• Opportunities and funding for book designers
• Networking and client acquisition for editors
• Children’s and young adult literature
• Cultural outreach
• The Künstlersozialkasse (health insurance and pension programme for artists and writers)
• Bookkeeping/Accounting and tax issues
• Associations and contract law
• VG Wort (German copyright royalties management)
• Workflow and time management
• Podcasts and other alternative forms of publication
• Self-publishing
• Crowdfunding

We will infom you about the project schreiben&lebenExTRA and explain the basics of consulting work. In German and English speaking round-tables our experienced consultants will answer all your burning questions, tell you about the everyday life of a consultant and will give tips for the application process.
