Rabea Edel, born 1982, studied Italianistik in Berlin and Rom, lives as a free author and photograph in Berlin. Her debut novel »Das Wasser, in dem wir schlafen« was published in 2006, her second novel »Ein dunkler Moment« was published 2011 in the Luchterhand Literaturverlag. She writes periodically for magazines and news papers, and engages in projects at the intersection of art, cultural industries, and journalism. Edel teaches creative writing (a.o. at the NYU Berlin, and the Berliner Festspielen), moderates and curates readings and cultural Events for publishers and cultural institutions. She is a jury-member of the »Treffen Junger Autoren« (Berliner Festspiele). From 2011-2014 she was editor in chief for the magazine »REVUE – Magazine for the Next Society«. In 2014 she founded »Urban Journalism«, an interactive salon- and networkformat. In may 2014 she was called to be a member for PEN. Among her many awards she was granted the Jahresstipendium des Landes Niedersachsen in 2016, a Arbeitsstipendium des Deutschen Literaturfonds in 2014, was scholar in the Casa Baldi (Bundesregierung/Deutsche Akademie Rom) in 2009, Artist in residency in Beijing, China at the Goethe-Institut Peking in 2015, and in 2016 she was Writer in residency at the Goethe Institut Ljubljana, Slovenien.
