Our offers in July

At the end of July, we will be taking a two-month break from consulting. Before then, however, we still have numerous consultation appointments for you in July, where our experts will answer your questions on the topics of contract negotiation, translation, agency and publisher search, children’s and young adult literature, self-promotion and PR as well as exposés, scholarships and grant applications.

What should and should not be included in a serious publishing contract? Which key points should you pay attention to before signing? What are the usual royalty rates and what negotiating options do you have? On July 3, freelance author, writing coach and editor Barbara Handke will answer your questions about publishing contracts and contract negotiations. Important: As she is not a lawyer, Barbara Handke cannot offer legal advice!

Our consultation day on July 8 with Katharina Schmidt and Barbara Neeb is aimed specifically at translators. The two experts will answer your questions about the acquisition of translation assignments, visibility in social media, machine translations and AI, as well as contract negotiations.

On July 15, Jordan T. A. Wegberg will explain the best way for authors to search for agencies and publishers. He will also answer questions about work organization. The advice day with him is aimed specifically at German-speaking authors.

The children’s and young adult book market works according to its very own rules and not all tips for authors of “adult literature” can be applied one-to-one. That’s why Martina Klein will be giving advice on July 16 specifically on questions relating to children’s and young adult literature.

If you want to be successful as a freelancer in the literary world these days, there’s no getting around PR and self-marketing. On July 22, Alexandra Helena Becht will explain what to look out for and what tips and tricks are available. Registration for this advice day will open at the end of next week.

And before we go on our little summer break, there will be one more consultation day on July 23 when Nina Bußmann will advise you on questions relating to exposés, scholarships and grant applications.

Our consultations will take place (depending on the consultant) either via Zoom or in person in our consultation room at Kolonnenstr. 26. Click here to register.

We hope to see you at one of our consultations in the coming weeks.
