About the Project

schreiben & leben: Consulting and networking of and for literary freelancers

From 2016 to 2019 the Lettrétage supported the project “WiSU” (which in German stands for: “Professional support for authors in Berlin´s independent literature scene”), a project for self-employed individuals working in Berlin’s literary scene with offers such as free advice on various topics and the Annual Literature Industry Gathering.

Following on from WiSU, the project “schreiben & leben” (“writing & living”) was launched in June 2019. In the long term this project intends to sustainably strengthen the economic basis of Berlin’s literary industry including the freelance authors, translators, editors, literary event organisers and others who work within it. Newly added components of the project include a mentoring programme for literary curators and the supporting role in the foundation of a literary producers’ cooperative as a model project. The extensive individual counselling programme will be continued and so will the Annual Gathering of the Literary Industry. The Berlin literature calendar – a joint event poster of all Berlin literature event organisers – and also the joint online ticketing system for literature events will continue to be available to all those interested.

schreiben & leben is funded by the Senate Department for Culture and Europe and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
