Please introduce yourself in two or three sentences.
Christian Dittloff, born in 1983 in Hamburg. I studied German and English language and literature in Hamburg, as well as creative writing in Hildesheim. Today I work as an author in Berlin.
What career experience do you have in your field of consultation?
I’m familiar with the cultural sector from various angles: from my work as an author, but also as a cultural journalist, and from previously running a small company for podcasts and cultural marketing in Hamburg, whose clients included Thalia Theatre and the Reeperbahn Festival. I’ve lived in Berlin since 2014, and have worked for the Komische Oper as a social-media manager and online expert for five seasons now. In addition, I’ve advised authors on the use of social media for close to five years.
What are typical questions that participants might ask you in a consultation session?
Which social media channels should I use? How often do I have to post on Instagram, and what should I post? How can I market myself on social media? Something inside me strongly resists posting; is social media even good for me and my career?
What are some of your professional achievements?
Author of the novels/auto-fictional texts “Das Weiße Schloss” (The White Castle, 2018), “Niemehrzeit: Das Jahr des Abschieds von meinen Eltern” (Never-Again-Time: The Year of Parting From My Parents, 2021) and “Prägung: Nachdenken über Männlichkeit” (Influence: Thoughts on Masculinity, 2023).
Co-editor of the series “check your habitus” / “Herz & Habitus” (sukultur, Instagram)
Recent Grants: Berlin Senate work stipend, Künstlerhof Schreyahn, Roger Willemsen Stiftung (Mare Künstlerhaus)
What languages do you offer consultation sessions in?
German, English (I try!)
Where can you be found in the internet/on social media?
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/christian_dittloff/
What piece of advice would you offer anyone interested in working in your professional field?
Establish a routine that makes it possible to write.
What were your greatest challenges in the early years of your career?
Again: finding a routine that allowed me to work, with enough free time and minimal existential anxiety.
