Erec Schumacher, born in Mölln, lives and works in Berlin as an author, organizer, publisher and activist of the independent scene. He is co-founder and board member of KOOK e.V., an independent network of artists for artists, among other things co-organizer of the reading series KOOKread, co-project leader of the KOOK project Die Stadt der Anderen (2017), curator and project leader of the German-Georgian literature festival Berlinisi, which took place in Tbilisi and Berlin in 2018, in the project team of the Wortgarten festival in the Uckermark (2019). Since 2019 he has been on the board of Bündnis Freie Szene Berlin e.V. and since October 2020 on the set of Spokesperson’s of the Coalition of the Freie Szene, in which he represents the interests of the independent literary scene and of which he was already a member from 2016 – 2019. He is a founding member of the Netzwerk der Freien Literaturszene Berlin e.V., of which he was a board member from 2016 – 2019. His texts and works have appeared in numerous magazines, anthologies and chapbooks. In 2020 he founded the publishing house etcetera press. He is vegan, anti-capitalist and Zen sympathizer. He is married to the poet Karla Reimert and father of two children.
