Our consultation days in January

Submitting applications, developing projects, structuring everyday life – this is just as much a part of the craft of freelance authors, translators and editors as working on texts. That is why “schreiben & leben” offers a variety of individual consultations for freelancers in the literary business in January 2021.

If your occupation is literature for children and young adults, you should take note of January 19th. Kathrin Köller worked for many years as a textbook editor until she started her own business as an author, translator and specialised journalist in the field of children’s and youth media. For “schreiben & leben”, she advises both translators and authors who address a young audience not only on finding a publisher or an agency project but also on development and scholarships.

If you are interested in gaining a first insight into the field of “childrens’ and youth literature”, we recommend the conversation we had with Heike Brillmann-Ede on our Soundcloud channel.

Authors and editors who have questions about work management will get answers from Jordan T. A. Wegberg on January 20th. How do I structure my everyday life as a freelancer? How do I stay motivated? What methods and technical tools can help me with my work? Jordan T. A. Wegberg has been working as a freelance editor and translator for publishing houses, advertising agencies and companies since 1994.

Creative processes, however, also need financial freedom. Since she has successfully participated in numerous artist-in-residence programmes and competitions, Nina Bußmann knows the funding landscape for writers inside out. On January 27th, she will be happy to share her experiences with scholarships and applications with you.

Unfortunately, Ulrike Ostermeyer’s advisory day on January 15th is already fully booked. However, there will be more opportunities to get advice on finding a publisher or agency in spring. Do you want to be among the first to know about the new consultation dates? Subscribe to our newsletter.
