Please introduce yourself in two or three sentences.
I’m Susan Stone, an American journalist and audio producer living in Berlin. I love to help people realize their podcast dreams!

What professional experience do you have in your field of consultation?
I’ve worked with audio for over 20 years! I was a staffer at NPR (National Public Radio) in Washington, DC before coming to Berlin in 2005. Since that time I have freelanced for US and European/British public radio and created podcasts and advised people who want to make podcasts.

What are typical questions that prospective clients might ask you in a consultation?
How do I start a podcast? Which equipment and editing software should I use? How do I find my audience? How long should my podcast be? How can I sound professional as a beginner?

What successes do you have in your professional field?
2001 (Fellowship) RIAS Berlin Commission German/American Exchange for Journalist
2005-6 (Fellowship) Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship in Germany
2009 Radio Prize – RIAS Berlin Commission Awards for Reporting on Germany
2010/2013 Guest Journalist – Journalists & Experts Alumni Program of the Round Table USA
2017-2022 Dead Ladies Show Podcast grant-supported by the Berlin Senate
2017-2020 Jury Member, RIAS Berlin Commission Radio, TV, & Digital Media Awards
2024 – Dead Ladies Show Podcast to be featured on US news program CBS Weekend News

In which languages can you offer consultations?
English & German.

What advice would you give to anyone interested in your field?
Listen to a lot of podcasts! Make a note of what you like and don’t like, in terms of style, content, length, etc. Remember that commercial podcasts have several full-time staff members – strive to be the best you can but don’t compare yourself with them.
