As part of the “Übersetzen & Weltretten” (Translating & Saving the World) festival, schreiben&lebenExTRA is offering free, 30-minute one-on-one consultations on the topics of literary translation and the translation profession on September 18 and 25, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. each day. The consultations are suitable for both beginners in translation and experienced professionals:
18. and 25.09.2026, 2-8pm | Short Consultations for Translators at the “Übersetzen & Weltretten” Festival
(Consultation in German, English and French)
In Person (Off-site at Collegium Hungaricum, Dorotheenstraße 12, 10117 Berlin)
with Charlotte Bomy (18.9) and Andreas Jandl (25.9)
Sample consultation topics: I’ve found a great book that I want to translate! What now? How do I land a translation job? Do I need to study to become a translator? What do I need to know as a translator about copyright and drafting contracts? How do I negotiate with publishers? What should I know about the KSK and VG Wort? What networking opportunities are available for translators? How do the literary industry and literary life work?
The festival program starts at 4 p.m. on both days. This makes it easy to combine a brief consultation with a visit to the festival.
