Our consultations days in January

Spending the whole day curled up on the sofa wrapped in a blanket: it feels like an aspirational state of being, especially in a month like January, regardless of the slightly warmer temperatures. Going back to work after the holidays is tough. But never fear: in the next few weeks we’re coming to your aid with consultations on motivation and personal responsibility.

We gave ourselves a bit of lead time this month and are starting in the middle: on 16.01.2023, Valentin Tritschler is consulting on finding an agent and publisher. He has amassed experiences both as an author and an agent, so he knows what it’s like to be on both sides of the literary industry. He has received numerous scholarships under the pseudonym Valentin Moritz and until 2019 he worked as a literary agent, representing authors from all genres, including poetry, fiction and non-fiction. So he is well-equipped with the knowledge that matters when looking for the right agent or publisher. (All consultations with Valentin Tritschler are fully booked; put your name on the waiting list!)

Do you have a specific scholarship or funding offer in mind that you want to apply for? Then don’t miss our consultation day with Nina Bußmann! After receiving various prestigious prizes and scholarships herself and having three novels published by Suhrkamp, it’s safe to say she has eagle eyes for the funding landscape for writers. In the one-on-one consulting sessions, you can fine-tune your book proposal and get pointers on pitching it. Nina Bußmann is also the right person to ask questions about work organization strategies (time management, staying motivated and dealing with yourself in a good way while writing). The author is looking forward to sharing her experiences with you on 18 January.

Anyone who wants to take over the marketing and editing of their own texts can talk to Michael Meisheit on 24.01. In ten years he has sold just under 200,000 self-published books and audio books, so he is very knowledgeable of the possibilities and pathways, as well as the difficulties and impediments, of self-determined publishing.

Copy editors should be marking their calendars for 26 January, the day they can schedule a one-on-one meeting with Joachim Fries. Having worked for over ten years as a freelance copy editor, he has the know-how for getting established on the market. His consulting expertise covers virtually every topic the copy-editing profession: from acquiring clients to calculating and negotiating fees; from project management to self-marketing and time management.

And in that vein, the schreiben&leben team wishes you a successful start to the new year!
